BLITZ SERVICE - Szczecin

The timing belt is a multi-layer toothed belt made of particularly durable synthetic materials.

It provides synchronization of the camshaft and crankshaft of the car engine. The timing chain performs the same function, with the only difference being that it is made of metal and lasts much longer.

Most modern car engines contain both pistons and valves in the same block. The timing belt prevents them from “meeting”. If the timing belt suddenly breaks, the piston comes into contact with the valve, hits it with terrible force and bends. All this in 99% of cases leads to a general overhaul of the car’s engine. And this is several times more expensive than a simple timing belt replacement.

To replace the timing belt in modern cars, a special tool is needed: a camshaft clamp, a torque wrench and a jack. It is very important to tension the belt correctly. Too little tension will cause it to sag and the belt to jump, which will lead to the consequences described above. A belt that is too tight can break during operation.

If the pump/water pump in your car is failing, we recommend performing two procedures at the same time: replacing the timing belt and replacing the pump/water pump. When replacing the belt, the pump becomes available and therefore you will not have to pay twice for the same work. Of course, when replacing the timing belt, it is worth replacing all the timing rollers. Also pay attention to leaks in the seals. Oil getting on the timing belt causes corrosion, which significantly shortens its service life.
